Fly or train into the Land of Abundance, and a private car meets you at Chengdu Shuangliu (CTU), Tianfu (TFU) or the East Railway Station. The driver handles the luggage and the check-in. Airport and station transfers are arranged for two guests or more — travelling alone is fine, but the difference is charged on top, so ask our team for the exact figure.

Then Chengdu is yours for the evening: the shopping streets of the city centre, or the网红 landmarks — Kuanzhai Alley, Chunxi Road, Taikoo Li, Jinli Ancient Street. Your guide will have called or messaged you the day before with the pick-up arrangement; please keep your phone on, as the driver calls between 19:00 and 21:00 the evening before.

Panda Base → Sanxingdui 熊猫基地 — 三星堆 — 成都

Breakfast, then north to Axe Head Hill for the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding — two hours, with the shuttle bus and the audio guide optional. Eighty-odd giant pandas, red pandas, black-necked cranes and white storks, and ten thousand clumps of bamboo planted for them. Then across town to the Sanxingdui Museum, three hours on the duck-pond at the old city of Wencheng, where two Shang-dynasty sacrificial pits gave up a thousand treasures — the bronze masks, the gold staff and the great standing figure that pushed the Shu kingdom back five thousand years.

Lunch is a proper old-Chengdu Sichuan dinner at a designated restaurant. Dinner is at your own arrangement — the Jinli food street is two streets away if you want it tonight.

Du Fu's Thatched Cottage → Wuhou Shrine → Jinli 杜甫草堂 — 武侯祠 — 锦里古街

Two hours at the Thatched Cottage of Du Fu, the house the great Tang poet rented and lived in for nearly four years in his later wandering years — thatched roofs, bamboo, a garden, and the man himself made of almost nothing. Then the Wuhou Shrine, two hours in China's only temple where ruler and ministers are worshipped together: Zhuge Liang's hall, Liu Bei's, the Hui Ling tomb, and the old city of Wencheng beyond.

Lunch is free time on Jinli Ancient Street, where the Sichuan snacks gather. Dinner is in a music restaurant — the walnut-and-music bar on the river — where you eat while a band plays and the city takes its time.

Leshan Giant Buddha → Huanglongxi Ancient Town 乐山大佛 — 黄龙溪古镇

Three hours at the Giant Buddha — the largest stone Maitreya in the world, 71 metres tall, carved into the cliff where the Min, Qingyi and Dadu rivers meet, and ninety years in the making. "A mountain that is a Buddha, and a Buddha that is a mountain." Up the stairway on the cliff face, or by river boat if you prefer the waterline view.

Lunch is a town-style Sichuan feast in Huanglongxi, then three unhurried hours in the old town — 1,700 years of riverside history, the "hometown of the fire-dragon folk art", a national-level scenic town and one of the twenty prettiest streets in the world.

Free Morning → Home 自由休闲 — 送机/送站 — 返回家乡

Breakfast, then a free morning for Kuanzhai Alley, Taikoo Li or Chunxi Road — and coffee, if you have the time. We arrange the transfer to the airport or station two to three hours before your flight or train, and four hours ahead for Tianfu airport — for two guests or more; travelling solo, the difference is charged on top, so ask us in advance. Checkout is by noon; luggage storage is available at the front desk.
